Since we last looked, Ally Bank Online has undergone a complete overhaul to totally re-brand itself, finally shedding the last of the GMAC Bank leftovers. These, by themselves, are extremely competitive offers and definitely worth looking into. Ally Bank Online continues to impress with great rates.
Another unique offer with online banking at Ally Bank is their No Penalty CD. This account is a certificate of deposit that has no penalty for early withdrawal or closing, a great boon to some CD investors. Ally Bank rates for this CD (on a 9 month term) are 1.85% APY, which is very competitive.
Ally Bank Online is FDIC insured, of course, and definitely worth considering. Online banking at Ally Bank is open to anyone in the U.S.

This spring I opened 5 CD’s with GMAC in an effort to diversify my
holdings with different financial institutions as the concern over
bank failures was increasing.
Through the GMAC / ALLY transition they effectively reduced my 2.65%
APY to 2.6% APY on my CD’s. This is BULL S$IT Ally. I am Finance
Major and I know how to calculate NPV equations.
ALLY will never receive another penny from me. I am staying with ING.
