This is only for balances up to and including $1000, but what a rate. Any balance over $1000 and the rate reverts back to their standard rate of 0.700% interest and 0.70% APY. This interest is compounded daily and credited to the accounts on a monthly basis. For the best money market account, the best available rate is from Geddes Federal Savings and Loan Association. They have a MMDA which pays 1.99% interest and an APY of 2.00% for deposits of $50,000 or more. For account balances between $25 and $50,000, the interest rate is 1.00% along with the APY. This account is only available for New York State residents that live within 150 miles of the bank located in Syracuse, NY. These were current as of April 7, 2010 but again are subject to change without notice.
For the best bank rates for a checking account in the nation, turn to Carthage Savings and Loan Association. Their Highest Interest Checking account for balances between $2,500 and $25,000 receives an interest rate of 2.00% with an APY of 2.05%. This rate posted on January 20, 2010 and still current as of April 7, 2010, is subject to change without notice. This is a free checking account without fees as long as the balance stays above the minimum $2,500.
