Best Banks 2010
The Best Banks 2010 list is pretty similar anywhere you look. A few of the factors that influenced the rankings are average equity, net interest margin and leveraged ratio.
The top ranking across the nation is Honolulu’s Bank of Hawaii. This might appear to be a boring choice, but boring in these times is good. You never hear any problems with this bank involved and they have net assets of $12.2 billion. This bank did not follow the trend in the real estate lending practices the lead to the recession. Because of this they did not need any of the federal bailout money
UMB financial of Kansas City Missouri is considered the second best bank in the nation. They had the same approach on real estate loans as did the Bank of Hawaii. This was the conservative approach. They hold $10.2 billion in assets and by holding the conservative approach is still a very profitable bank. Instead of expanding and merging like most financial institutions of the time have, this bank concentrated their efforts on their region. Much like many community banks did years ago. Because of their sound approach they did not need any tax payer bailout money from the federal government either.
Another bank from Kansas City Missouri made it to number three with Commerce Bank filling the slot. Again they had a very low rate of nonperforming loans on the real estate side of financing. They had a solid $18 billion in assets that helped them weather the financial storm the hit the nation.
Prosperity Bank out of Houston Texas made most lists at number four. They have a saying at this bank, “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”. Sound familiar? Because they too did not jump on the risky loan ventures like so many other banks, they never need the federal bailout either.
If you need solid bank rates, look at the Best Banks 2010 and what they have to offer. They have solid business plans and will be around for years to come.
