The best Philadelphia Banks is subjective to what is important to the consumer. For some, the important factor is the mortgage rates or convenience, while for others it is the savings or CD rates. The best overall financial institution will have competitive rates in every category, with excellent customer service.
From comments of people that actually do banking in Philadelphia, there is a mixture of what is considered the best bank. Convenience and service is at the top of most people’s lists. Wachovia Bank has what appear to be the most ATM machines in the best places where customers can use them. This bank is good for use in the city, but outside the city, the ATMs are scarce and they do not reimburse the fees charges when a customer uses another company’s ATM machine. The customer services, along with the operational hours, are suspect but the online service from the website is excellent.
TD is the new name for Commerce Bank. There are many branch locations and operational hours are convenient for their customers, some of which are open 7 days a week. All but one branch is reported to have great customer service, and this financial institution reimburses customers when an ATM charges a fee. The website is difficult to use at times, but no place is perfect.
PNC is also reported to have many ATMs dispersed across the metro area. There are decent packages with a few of their checking accounts that do not charge fees. The website is the best in the Philadelphia metro area, but some customers have reported problems with PNC losing checks.
Bank of America is another one that has an outstanding website that is user-friendly. Their products are not as good as CitiBank or HSBC, though.
The best reported bank rates are from the numerous credit unions in the area. The typical drawback with them is the availability of ATMs.
