Money Saving Ideas with Online Banking for December, 2011 is more than just being a penny pincher or frugal, it has now become a way of life so the American family can survive. This will include the best ways for investing your money along with ways not to waste what you already have.

Today the competition amongst the online banks is not as fierce as it once was. The offers of free checking do exist, but they are mainly from the smaller community banks but a few of the larger ones also have them like ING. Most of them also have qualifications like 5 to 10 transactions a month, one direct deposit and a minimum balance from $500 to $10,000.

For most of these accounts, the earning of interest on the balances is normal. Most of these interest bearing checking accounts are now associated with a savings account. It is also common for the interest being earned to be the same with both accounts. This allows for your money to be working for you while it is sitting idle.

The bank rates are not what most would consider great, but you do need them. Because of inflation, money sitting idle in an account will lose value. With your checking accounts and savings account balances earning a small percentage, you will not be making a great deal of money and as inflation rises, you will not be losing the value your money already has.

The need for money saving ideas is real with the present financial situation the country is in. Never just give a bank money to hold in an account. All of the online banks use the money they have collocated from their customers to reinvested in mechanisms to make them money. Make them pay you for using your money or it is like just giving them a free loan.

The best money saving ideas for investing your money today is not with the financial giants of the nation. Their only quest is to increase the size of their corporate profits no matter what it does to their customers or the nation as a whole.

To help the American consumer save as much as possible, the online banks of the nation are available to them. This will include the small town and community banks that have not lost their way in the financial world. Banks were established to give people and business a safe place to store their money. This foundation has been forgotten by the financial giants that are only looking for profits, not what they can do for their customer base.

One good way to distinguish a bank that cares about their customers from those that are only greedy is in their Online Banking bank rates. The national average for a 1 year CD is currently at 0.76% APY. If a bank wants you invest your money with them, their bank rates will be higher than this level.

From JP Morgan who owns Chase Bank the 1 year CD is earning an APY of 0.25%. Bank of America is offering a 1 year CD that is earning an APY of 0.35%. Citibank’s 1 year CD is earning an APY of 0.30% and Capital One is the highest in this group with a 1 year CD that is earning an APY of 0.50%.

On the flip side the best 1 year CD at this time is from Palladian Bank with an APY of 1.20%. Discover and Sallie Mae might be large but their 1 year CD rate of 1.10% is still very respectful. Even Ally Bank, which is a very large financial institution, is offering a 1 year CD rate of 1.09%.

For the best money saving ideas at this time is to look for a financial institution that remembers why they are in business. This is to server their customers, not give their corporate managers millions of dollars to waste away.

How to Avoid Bank Fees is the best way for you to save some money when dealing with the financial giants. The first step is to know what the terms and conditions of each account you have with them. This way you will know what you are up against.

The terms and conditions of each bank concerning their accounts can be found with most of their Online Banking sites. What you will find out with most of them is there is an advantage of doing most if not all your business with one institution. In many cases, the total balance of all your accounts can contribute to the minimum balances requited for free banking.

This consolidation of accounts with one financial institution is a major contributing factor to meeting the minimum requirements for free checking in today’s banking world. In many instances, this total has to be a balance of $1,500 or higher.

If you decide to switch financial institution, make sure there was not a minimum time you had to have your accounts open. In most cases the time limit is 6 months. If you close your accounts before then, there is an additional fee. It is in the fine print which you should be use to reading by now.

All financial institutions charge fees when the account is overdrawn, over their credit limit or the bill is not paid on time. This is the easiest way to avoid paying fees, pay on time and stay within your means.

To know how to avoid bank fees is to know the rules the financial intuition has placed on your accounts. They are in charge because you have agreed to their terms when you sign up for them. So know them and abide by them. You do not have a choice other than to pay fees.

When looking for the best bank rates, what you need to know is dependent on what you require. When it comes to your investments like CDs and savings account, the interest can be simple or compounded. If you are taking out a loan of any kind, it is always compounded interest.

The difference in an investment is whether your interest earns interest. If it is a simple interest, it does not earn. But with compounded interest your interest earns interest, if you leave the interest in the account. With many financial institutions, they offer their clients the option to have the interest stay with the deposit of the CD or have it transferred to another account, when investing in a CD. These institutions that offer the transfer hope you will take it. This simple reason is that if you take the interest out, then they do not have to pay interest on the interest.

On any loan they make to clients, they always have compounded interest. The more times it is compounded, the more the financial institution will earn. Most are compounded daily, but there are a few loans that compound hourly. Know how your loan is compounded before signing on the dotted line.

The easiest way to spot it is with the APR. The higher this is, as compared to other loans with the same interest rate, the more the principal is compounded.

When looking for the best bank rates, be aware that your credit rating will determine the rate your will be offered. In the past, the more lines of credit you have and the longer the history with each line is, helps to determine your credit rating. With credit cards now charging annual fees for keeping line of credit open, a judgment needs to be made. If you are applying for a loan, keep them open until the loan is approved, then you can close your account. This will give you the best bank rates. What you need to know is that your credit history will affect the bank rates you are offered.

The best money management software is dependent on what you need from it. For many, Quicken has been the obvious choice. Many people got their first exposure to this software because it was a part of the new computer programs when purchasing a new computer. This program allows for easy tracking of every financial part of a person’s life. This includes income, expenditures, real estate, and investments. Because of its popularity, many financial institutions make it possible for them to download their financial information directly into this program on their home computers. As an added bonus, it is also compatible with TurboTax at tax time for the accurate transfer of data.

Microsoft Money is another popular software program that is on most new computers when purchased. Just like with Quicken, this is only an introductory period of 30 days, then a purchase must be made. It is possible to track all of your finances with this software, with emphasis on the investments. This is where it shines best with a broad set of tools for tracking and research to help you decide which path your investment dollar should be in.

The Mvelopes personal budgeting system is not preloaded on any computer. This is an exclusively available online software system. The advantage is that because it is based online, any computer can be used to take and manage your funds, not just your home computer. This is more for budgeting your money and the advanced financial investment tools that Quicken and Microsoft money have are not present with Mvelopes.

Mint is, by some, considered the best because it is free. This is another online base money management system that allows you to track your finances from anywhere with any computer or mobile phone. You can even check bank rates with this software.

The best money management software is dependent on what you need and expect for this type of program.

Tips for finding the best savings accounts are essential to help you make your money grow. It is never easy to save and even harder to get a savings account started. This has nothing to do with any financial institution, but a person’s financial situation.

Taxes are easy to pay because for the most part it is taken out of a person’s pay check before they even see it. This, too, can be set up for a savings account. All financial institutions have a direct deposit option associated with every type of account, including savings accounts.

The average saving accounts have bank rates that are below 1% interest. There are some that are presently as high as 2.71% and an APY of 2.75% like at North Middlesex Savings Bank. There is a requirement of depositing $50 each and every billing cycle, though. This is a type of forced encouragement to save. For some people, this is necessary and gives them the drive to save. This is the best tip for some people who want to save.

There is a form of savings that goes by a different name. The money market account is essentially a savings account with one difference. The minimum deposit of a savings account is about $50 to $100 while for most money market accounts they are between $500 and $1000. Money market accounts historically have greater return on savings but that does not take into account promotional rates like the one stated above. The highest MMA rate is at just over 1.50% interest.

The Wilshire State Bank Installment savings account is something we knew our readers here at Online Banks Blog would want to learn about. First of all, Wilshire State Bank is a Korean-American bank that began as a small business-oriented bank and has since expanded to operate in four states and nationally as a lending institution.

The Wilshire State Bank installment savings plan is called the Rainbow Savings options and is made for planned, over time savings. It’s like most installment accounts wherein the depositor opens the account with an initial deposit and then ads to the account over time, regularly (usually via transfer), to build a savings portfolio.

The Wilshire State bank savings account already yields a decent, marketable interest rate, but the Rainbow Savings has a fixed interest rate similar to a certificate of deposit. It’s sort of a mesh of a CD and a savings account.

These types of accounts are becoming popular and this Wilshire State Bank installment savings account is a great one. Interest rates vary often and will depend upon when you lock in your account, but setup is easy.

Open the account, agree to a regular monthly transfer from checking, another savings, or direct deposit via paycheck and then the term (time) you wish to keep the account active. Longer terms mean higher interest and savings, of course. This Wilshire State Bank savings account is unique in that it is so easily opened and operated.

If you’re looking for a way to save for a specific event, such as a vacation or college tuition, then the Wilshire State Bank installment savings account is probably worth considering. All Wilshire State Bank savings accounts are FDIC insured.

In our last post, we looked at the American Express Blue Cash card. Now we’re going to look at a way to make it pay off for you. It’s actually possible to make money with the AmEx Blue Cash. Sounds like a scam, I know, but it’s not–it’s legitimate advice from Online Banks Blog. I’ll ease your mind: you don’t actually get cash in your wallet or a check in the mail.

What you do get from this way to make money using AmEx is a lower grocery and gasoline bill. Who can’t use that?

First, the American Express Blue pays up to 5% cash back for those items. To get that, though, you need good credit and to spend at least $6,500 in a year on your card. That’s not hard to do if you consider your total gas and grocery bill. Up to that $6,500 spending mark, the card pays 1% on gasoline and groceries, which is still pretty good.

The American Express Blue Cash card, though, shines after that spending mark and jumps up to 5% cash back. So here’s how to make money using AmEx and this cash back bonus.

Let me suppose a small theory: you have a card and you get your spouse another card on that account, so you’re sharing the account with American Express Blue. Now every time either of you puts gas in the car, buys groceries, or buys items at the drugstore, you use the AmEx Blue Cash to do it. Since these are basically regular budget items, you should be able to pay off the card’s balance monthly.

After a year of doing this, you’ve definitely gone over the $6,500 minimum. If you’re like most, your $6,500 spending total on your American Express Blue Cash card came around the fifth month you got the card. So that’s 7 months of 5% cash back on those purchases!

So at $1,300 in spending per month for seven months, that’s $9,100 you’ve spent on gas and groceries. So your cash back is $455 for those 7 months! Now, before that you spent $6,500 at 1% cash back, so you also get another $65, putting your total cash back at $520.

That’s cash money you didn’t spend and is about half a month’s expenses in gas, groceries, and drug store purchases if you’re spending the $1,300/month in our model here. Most people will find that they spend more than this monthly, so your ability to make money using AmEx might be even better.

See how that works? That’s a great way to save a little extra money in today’s bumpy economy.

Going with new hybrid cars is a great way to save money on gas. Additionally, you can help clean the environment through buying a more efficient gas car.

Maybe you want to save US greenbacks or maybe you are inspired by your concern for the environment. Either you can’t go wrong when you buy hybrid car. Additionally, you will be acknowledging the fact that oil is an exhausting resource that should not be used up.

Hybrid cars are great:

Hybrids can get a ton of miles per gallon

Hybrids are the way to go when it comes to being smart with your wallet

Hybrid cars can go many miles on a full tank of fuel and they come with extended guaranties

With lots of options available, you are sure to find what you want to save money on gas

However, if you are just looking to save money, I am not sure that new hybrid cars are the best cars to buy at this time. The premium that you will pay for the new hybrid vehicle will be more than the money you save on fuel.

Before you are making a purchase, always remember to try a few shops and find what’s best for you. The new option of choice is the smart car. It’s little compact and you can get save a ton of money with them.
