Save Your Gas Money

I just read an article from Aaron Aiken about How to Save an Extra $50 Each Month.  This article started me thinking about how I could save more money each month.  Aaron’s idea is that he has actually budgeted more in certain areas than he is spending.  But, he does not save this money, instead he just spends it on other things.

This got me thinking about whether I have any items in my budget like this.  The first thing that came to my mind was my gas budget.   I am budgeting a lot more money for gas due to gas pricing falling so much.

I should be putting this savings into my high interest savings account as soon as I get my paycheck.  Did you notice how I said that I should do this as soon as I get my paycheck?  This should help me two ways.  First, by putting this money into savings right away I won’t spend it on something else.  Second, I can start earning interest right away in my high interest savings account.

So, save you gas money that you budgeted but are not spending.  This should really help you save a lot of money each month.

  2. Thanks for the link and I’m happy to hear my article got you thinking about how you can lower some budget categories to save more. Similar to your point about gas, I also wrote an article on the same subject (banking gas money with these lower prices!) http://www.whereyouarenow.com/blog/2008/12/05/gas-prices-are-low-dont-waste-the-extra-cash/
