Tis The Season To Donate

salvation-army-logoWhile you are buying Christmas gifts for your friends and families, remember that this is also your last chance to donate to charities to be able to write off these charitable donations for this year’s taxes.

In November, before Thanksgiving and the the Christmas Season, my wife and I always clean out our closets to donate to the Salvation Army.  This is a great habit to get into.  Warm cloths are needed by the Salvation Army at this time of year, to help those who are less fortunate stay warm during the winter months.

Too often people feel guilty about using these types of donations as charitable writeoffs.  But, you shouldn’t feel guilty.  The tax code encourages charitable donations because they are good for society.

I don’t just donate to save money.  It helps people who are in need.  The Salvation Army is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to helping the poor.  There is no better way to honor Christ during the Christmas season than to give to those less fortunate.

You still have 12 days before 2009 so don’t forget to donate to the Salvation Army or your own charity of choice.
