From the West Coast, the Bank of the Sierra’s Sierra Reward Checking is also one of the best high-yield checking accounts around. The Sierra Reward Checking pays a 4.09% APY on balances up to $25,000 with no more than the usual rules. To earn 4.09%, you must make 12 Sierra check card purchases each month. You must also set up at least 1 direct deposit or automatic payment from your account, pay one bill through Sierra BillPay, and (enroll and) receive e-statements per statement cycle. The account must also be opened online. This rate was posted 12/4/2009 and still accurate and effective 3/26/2010.
